Big Jan Wears Pink Boots 2024

Pink Boots Society Collaboration Brew Big Jan is back again and better than ever! We’re celebrating International Women’s Day, with our sixth annual Pink Boots Society Collaboration beer: Big Jan Wears Pink Boots Hazy IPA! More than 20 ladies from various departments came together for a creative session to workshop this year’s label design. We asked the team to create a number of illustrations based on prompts like “what it means to be a woman in beer”, “meaning of belonging”, and “inspirational women in your life” to name just a few. To say we had an absolute blast drawing and hanging out with a group of smart, creative women, is an understatement. We may need to include drawing time in all our workdays now! Sharing and reflecting on each team member’s creative expression of these ideas, and then seeing those images integrated into the new label design was a true highlight of this year’s collaboration. We celebrate the 2024 IWD campaign theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’, and hope that the small steps we take to elevate the strong woman on our teams will inspire other women in predominantly male industries to seek and find their own sense of belonging. Our ‘women in beer’ brew crew are proud to present a new Hazy IPA featuring the 2023 Pink Boots Hop Blend – which boasts bright notes of citrus and ripe, tropical fruit. All proceeds from this brew benefit The Pink Boots Society, supporting women in beverage alcohol and fermentation industries. Big Jan Wears Pink Boots Hazy IPA is now available online and at our brewpub. Grab yours today and let’s all raise this fancy new brew in a ‘Cheers’ to the women at Stanley Park Brewing, and the many others who inspire, include and elevate us every day! Cheers to the Big Jan in your life!

Asian Heritage Month Beer Release: Kinship Rice Lager

New Beer Release: Kinship Rice Lager Asian Heritage Month May is Asian Heritage Month and we’re celebrating diversity, cultural connection and belonging within our community. In collaboration with our internal PAC-Asia employee resource group, and the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, we’re excited to launch our Kinship Rice Lager. A beer celebrating the coexistence of cultures and embracing the diversity that makes Canada unique. Tasting Notes This year, we’ve brewed a unique Rice Lager, flavoured with Mangosteen, a speciality Southeast Asian fruit offering a juicy aroma, as well as ube (ou-bae), a sweet purple yam often used in desserts in the Philippines, lends hints of vanilla-nut to the taste of this light pink coloured brew. Community & Partnership Stanley Park Brewing has partnered with the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, a registered charity founded in 2011, that honours a culture and community established in Vancouver more than 100 years ago. The organization is characterized by a spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation and a passion to help the revitalization of Chinatown – one of Canada’s most iconic neighbourhoods and the historic heart of Vancouver. This label was designed by local artist, Nicole Larsen from Ripple and Rise, created to bring communities together to celebrate Asian Heritage Month, their cultures and kinship. Read more about Nicole and the inspiration for this design below. All proceeds from Stanley Park Brewing’s Kinship Wheat Ale are going towards the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, supporting their revitalization efforts. ABOUT THE ARTIST & LABEL DESIGN ISNPIRATION Nicole My name is Nicole (she/her) and I’m a freelance graphic designer, illustrator, muralist, and the creative behind Ripple & Rise. My art is inspired by nature, connection, and everyday moments in life, and is known for its bold, bright colours and joyful, uplifting energy. When designing the label for this special beer, I was inspired by the natural beauty and cultural diversity of Asia, as well as the flavour of the beer itself. I chose four flowers native to Asia which hold many significant symbolic and spiritual meanings (Sakura, Hibiscus, Jasmine and Lotus), as well as the mangosteen fruit to showcase the flavour of the beer. Being a part of a project that values Asian representation and works to uplift Vancouver’s Chinatown community has been such an honour. It has allowed me the opportunity to create something that celebrates my own Japanese heritage and the diverse Asian community in Vancouver, while staying true to myself and my artistic style. I feel so grateful to be a part of such a meaningful project!

Big Jan Wears Pink Boots

Pink Boots Society Collaboration Brew Big Jan is back! To celebrate International Women’s Day, the women of the Stanley Park Brewing team got together to brew this year’s Pink Boots Society collaboration beer, Big Jan Wears Pink Boots, raising a cheers to the women in the alcohol and fermentation industry. The women of Stanley Park Brewing sat down to tell their story, share what it means to them to be involved in the women’s brew day, hear some meaningful advice they’ve received in their careers, and what changes they’re looking forward to for the future in the beer industry and why it’s important to celebrate International Women’s Day. “Not only did we create a delicious beer that honors the memory of a truly remarkable woman, but we also showed that women can come together to produce something truly special. It’s a testament to the power of community and the strength that we can draw from each other when we work together.” – Rachel Young, Brewer Stanley Park Brewing has been involved in five Pink Boots Collaboration Brew Days and are proud to have donated thousands of dollars to help in the education of future women in brewing! We recognize the importance in having an organization of females in the fermented/alcoholic beverage industry who are supporting all women who brew and ferment, package, design, serve and write about beer. This year, the ladies brewed a hazy IPA to showcase the 2022 Pink Boots Hop Blend, featuring notes of citrus, tropical and stone fruit. Asian Heritage Month Beer Release: Kinship Wheat Ale

New BEER Release: Kinship Wheat Ale Asian Heritage Month May is Asian Heritage Month, and Stanley Park Brewing is celebrating diversity and standing against all forms of anti-Asian racism and discrimination. In collaboration with the PAC-Asia employee resource group, and in support of the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, Stanley Park Brewing is launching their Kinship Wheat Ale, a beer celebrating the coexistence of cultures and embracing the diversity that makes Canada unique. Tasting Notes The Kinship Wheat Ale is a refreshing fruited wheat ale brewed with rice. You can expect a citrusy twang from kumquat and some sweetness from starfruit, for the perfect blend. Design & Partnership The label was designed by internal PAC Asia employee resource group member Michael Hua and Alisha Khanna, created to bring communities together and celebrate Asian Heritage Month, their cultures and kinship. Stanley Park Brewing has partnered with the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, a registered charity founded in 2011 that honours a culture and community established in Vancouver more than 100 years. The organization is characterized by a spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation and a passion to help the revitalization of Chinatown, one of Canada’s most iconic neighborhoods and the historic heart of Vancouver. All proceeds from Stanley Park Brewing’s Kinship Wheat Ale are going towards the Vancouver Chinatown Foundation, supporting their revitalization efforts. Chatting with theKinship Wheat Ale Design Team Alisha Khanna I am the production manager on the draftLine team at Labatt, and within Pac-Asia, I’m the South-Asian lead, a new addition to the ERG team in 2022. Having planned a successful Holi event in March, I am looking forward to the Diwali celebration later this year! Originally born and raised in Vancouver, I spent some time moving around with my family, even living in New Delhi, India for two years. It was during this time that I was able to really connect with and appreciate the Indian culture, experiencing local, diverse, traditions and celebrating holidays with my family. Working on this partnership project with both Stanley Park and Pac Asia has allowed the opportunity to bring two things together that I value – the diverse community of Vancouver that I grew up in, and the importance of diverse Asian representation and Kinship. Michael Hua I’m a senior designer at Labatt’s in-house agency, draftLine, typically responsible for designing content for Stella Artois and Michelob Ultra. Born and raised in Toronto, I’m a second generation Canadian with my Asian heritage deriving from my Chinese and Vietnamese roots. Kinship Wheat AleQuestions & Answers Tell us a bit about this label design? Kinship is all about the social relationship between family, friends, and one’s community. To illustrate this, I wanted to showcase a group of friends all having a good time where each person is from a different Asian background wearing clothes important to their culture and traditions. The overall idea of the design was to show the sense of community between the friends who all hold strong kinship for one another. Can you tell us your involvement with the Pac Asia ERG Group? With PAC-Asia, I usually am brought on board to design and illustrate for different projects they have planned such as this Stanley Park beer as well as Mill St’s own version of Kinship Wheat Ale released last summer. Anything you’re looking forward to with this group? What’s coming up? Always looking forward to all the different events/initiatives PAC-Asia has coming next! Please share what working on the Kinship Wheat Ale design project along with Stanley Park x Pac Asia ERG team means to you? It is such a great honour to be part of this whole project. I’m appreciative of this amazing opportunity to have this platform to illustrate work that speaks to the Asian community. Representation truly matters. Also big thanks to Stanley Park and PAC Asia bringing this idea to life and giving back to the Asian community! Any last notes/comments about Asian Heritage Month, this design, or anything that you’d like to share! Love visiting Vancouver and Stanley Park! Nature and going outdoors are some of my favourite things and I’m always in awe of seeing the mountains scenery Vancouver has in the city skylines.

Celebrating Earth Month with Stanley Park Ecology Society

Nesting Great Blue Herons – Photograph by Greg Hart Supporting Stanley Park’s Healthy Ecosystems What do you get when you mix 405 hectares of forest, wetland and beach with nearly 9 million visitors a year? A world-class urban park! Stanley Park is an oasis for people and wildlife alike, but keeping it that way means balancing recreational needs with healthy ecosystems. Thanks, in part, to consistent annual funding from Stanley Park Brewing, the Stanley Park Ecology Society (SPES) is working to conserve the Park’s delicate habitats and biodiversity that are crucial for healthy ecosystems and wildlife. Since 1988, Stanley Park Ecology Society, an independent non-profit charity, has been promoting awareness of and respect for the natural world through collaborative leadership in environmental education, research, and conservation in Stanley Park. SPES’s relationship with Stanley Park Brewing (SPB) stretches back two decades with SPB’s early donations to SPES’s “Adopt an Acre” program supporting habitat restoration in the Park. Stanley Park Brewing became an Official Sponsor of SPES in 2017 with partial proceeds from its Windstorm West Coast Pale Ale going directly to SPES’s conservation work in the Park. Removal of invasive English Ivy & Yellow Flag Iris around Stanley Park Photo by Greg Ferguson Photo by Greg Hart “Stanley Park Brewing’s sustaining funds make it possible for SPES to create strong restoration plans with long-term monitoring to ensure conservation success,” says SPES’s executive director Dylan Rawlyk. With SPB’s support, the future of over 500 animal species and 670 plant species in Stanley Park is brighter! Visitors to the Stanley Park Brewing Restaurant & Brewpub can learn more about the conservation collaboration between SPB and SPES in the new “Conservation Corner” display. Watch for rotating exhibits about SPES’s work including the monitoring of the nearby Great Blue Heron colony, restoration of the rare bog at Beaver Lake, and the ongoing invasive species removal campaign. If you would like to get involved with hands-on habitat restoration in Stanley Park, please email the Stanley Park Ecology Society Volunteer Coordinator.
